Get thrilling sound on a budget
If you're looking for an affordable way to bring better sound into your home, the Yamaha RX-V379 is a great foundation to build on. For years I envied my dad's surround sound system, but didn't have room in my budget for all the components. I finally picked up a 5.1-channel receiver and a pair of bookshelf speakers, and noticed a major improvement in sound quality right off the bat. Not long after, I added a center channel speaker, followed by a pair of tower speakers and then a subwoofer. Each addition to my system brought a new appreciation for good sound, and I also had a convenient hub to connect and control all of my entertainment sources.
Once I had the full 5.1 system in place, I tested it out with one of my favorite Blu-ray movies. There's this quiet scene where a mosquito buzzes around a hospital room, and I could've sworn it was in the living room flying around my head. No joke, I almost reached for a magazine to swat it. I've been hooked on surround sound ever since.

Yamaha's AV Setup Guide for iOS and Android™ tablets walks you through each step of the connection process.
Yamaha technology helps you build your system gradually
If you start out with just one pair of speakers like I did, the RX-V379 can simulate actual surround sound in a stereo setup. Yamaha's Virtual Cinema DSP setting mimics a five-channel system without the extra speakers so you don't have to wait to experience surround sound effects from your favorite movies. Worried about where you'll place your surround speakers once you have them? You can line them all up in the front of the room if you need to, and Virtual Cinema Front reflects sound off your walls to make it sound like the speakers are all around you. And if you're working with smaller speakers, the Extra Bass setting gives them more low-end output than they'd normally have, for more theater-like impact from special effects.
Easy setup and operation
Yamaha's AV Setup Guide app for iOS and Android™ tablets makes it easy to connect your speakers and sources to the RX-V379, taking you through the process step-by-step with illustrations to guide you. The YPAO calibration system uses an included setup microphone to analyze the acoustics of your room and optimize your speakers' performance for the best possible audio experience. Once you're all set up, you can control your system easily with Yamaha's quick-access Scene buttons. If you want to watch a Blu-ray, all you do is press the appropriate button on the front panel or remote, and the receiver powers on, switches to the right source, and calls up your saved surround sound settings.
