Enclosure Design: The NHT ST4 speakers feature two separate chambers. The top portion, which houses the mid-woofer and tweeter, is a sealed, acoustic suspension enclosure. The lower portion, which contains the side-firing woofer, is a bass reflex enclosure with a rear firing port. The cabinet, manufactured with acoustically-neutral MDF, is finished with gently tapered edges and a luxurious seven-coat hand-polished lacquer in piano gloss black.

Drivers: The 3-way ST4 speakers have a 1" fluid-cooled, metal dome tweeter with NHT's proprietary neodymium magnet structure coupled with an aluminum heat sink. The mid-woofer is a high-excursion, 6-1/2" polypropylene cone driver. The side-firing 8" long throw polypropylene cone woofer provides deep, accurate bass.

Speaker Placement: These speaker are designed to be used as a mirror-image pair with the side-loaded woofers facing away from each other. In situations where this isn't possible, and you don't have anything between the woofers blocking them, you can set up the ST4s so the woofers face inward toward each other.

Dual 5-Way Binding Posts: Each speaker has two sets of gold-plated 5-way binding posts connected by gold-plated jumpers. By removing the jumpers, you can separately use the two sets of binding posts to bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers. Bi-wiring will improve resolution and dynamics. For more precise tuning of the low frequency response, you can use two amplifiers (bi-amping). Each pair of binding posts will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade connectors, banana plugs, and dual banana plugs.

Video-Shielding: The tweeter and midwoofer are video-shielded, allowing them to be positioned close to a TV screen without damaging the TV's picture. The 8" woofer is not video-shielded.

Spike Kit: The ST4 speakers come with their own spike kit, which both improves its stability and firmly couples the speaker to the floor for improved bass performance. The spike kit consists of two 11-3/4" stabilizer bars that bolt to the bottom of the cabinet. Each stabilizer bar holds two threaded metal spikes. For hardwood or vinyl flooring, you can place the spikes in the supplied metal bases, or use the self-adhesive rubber feet to prevent scratching or marring. The spikes add up to 1-1/2" to the overall height of the speakers.
