The Story

About the Monster HTS 5100 Reference PowerCenter

by Crutchfield'sJames Ralston

Don't leave your home theater vulnerable to harmful power surges, or to the line noise that can degrade performance — give your system the protection it deserves with Monster Power's HTS 5100! Monster's finest home theater PowerCenter, it delivers rock-solid surge protection, plus state-of-the-art power conditioning for the best possible picture and sound.

Boasting Monster's Stage 4 (v.2.0) Clean Power™ circuitry, the HTS 5100 virtually does away with EMI (electromagnetic interference) and RFI (radio frequency interference) that can degrade audio and video quality. Five isolated AC filter banks — each designed to combat the line noise produced by a specific type of equipment — provide the ultimate defense against cross-component interference. Two discrete Digital Isolation Filters, for example, prevent the broadband noise produced by digital components from interfering with the performance of analog equipment.

Ten color-coded, rear-panel outlets (divided into five pairs, each pair with its own filter bank) accommodate truly extensive systems. Individual slide switches let you set each outlet pair as "unswitched," "switched," or "switched with delay." For added flexibility, you can even program each pair's delay length to 6 or 20 seconds. Sequential power-up prevents sudden turn-on surges that can result in audible thumps and pops from your speakers.

With three sets of gold-plated coaxial inputs/outputs and special RF circuitry, the HTS5100 offers line conditioning and protection for cable, DBS, and antenna feeds — with minimal signal loss. An RJ-14 splitter provides phone line surge protection for DBS receivers, TiVo recorders, or other components requiring a direct phone line connection.

Dual illuminated digital meters on the front panel let you monitor the incoming voltage and total current draw. The HTS 5100's handsome, component-width chassis allows for easy stacking, or you can rack-mount it with the included metal rack ears. Remote AC and DC control means you can turn the PowerCenter on and off via your receiver, preamp, or a home automated control system.
