4-Channel Tape Recorder
Description
When you create music a tape recorder can be the most important instrument you own. It's a tool you use to capture and faithfully reproduce your talent.
Like any other tool, you want it to be versatile. With the 8140, what you give you'll get. It's functions and features were carefully chosen and designed to make things easy instead of hard. And so was the price.
You can make discrete 4-channel recordings from any source, get excellent reproduction of quadraphonic tapes, or use the 8140 for conventional 2-channel recording and playback if you choose. In short, the 8140 gives you a lot of ways to express your talent and imagination, without depressing your wallet.
When you're composing, sometimes the whole thing sounds great in your head but there's a clinker or two in the parts when you put it on tape. Or there's a part missing.
With the 8140's multi-sync function you can overdub tracks individually and in perfect sync with each other. If it's still not right you can re-record any track any time in sync with the others. The multi-sync function takes the pressure off being perfect the first time down. What's good stays, what isn't so good gets done until it is.
The front panel Tape Select Switch on the 8140 lets you choose the proper pre-set Record Equalizer for normal or low noise/high output tapes.
The tape heads of the 8140 incorporate molybdenum permalloy cores machined to extremely strict tolerances for maximum frequency response. These MBD heads are even more wear resistant than ferrite heads and are backed by an original owner lifetime guarantee. That's how sure we are of the quality of our heads.
The 8140 gives you electronic echo, or slap, for enhancing one or more tracks, and Sound-on-Sound so, effectively, you can expand the number of tracks beyond four. Both features have a variable control and either is possible with a flip of a switch.
The 8140 has three high-performance motors for smooth, quick-response tape handling. The capstan is driven by a heavy duty 4/8-pole, 2-speed hysteresis synchronous motor. The two high torque motors are 6-pole induction types.
An electro-mechanical control system operates the solenoids and motors for smooth, positive operation.
The 8140 also includes quadraphonic headphone jacks and four microphone jacks, interlocking record buttons, four large illuminated meters, tape counter, automatic end-of-reel shutoff and automatic tape lifters.
