Audio Research SP3-A1 specs

The Audio Research SP3-A1 is a vintage, all-tube stereo preamplifier manufactured around 1975

. It was highly regarded in its day for its sonic performance and reliability.

Technical specifications

Frequency response: 15Hz to 30kHz, ±1dB.
Distortion: Less than 0.005% total harmonic distortion (THD) and intermodulation distortion (IM) at 5V RMS output into an IHF load.
Maximum output: 25V RMS at 1kHz.
Signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio:
- High-level inputs: Greater than 90dB below rated output (unweighted, wide-band).
- Magnetic phono inputs: Greater than 70dB below rated output, 20Hz to 20kHz, referenced to a 10mV input.
Input impedance:
- Magnetic phono: 50K ohms typical (150pf shunt).
- High-level: 100K ohms typical.
Output impedance: Less than 600 ohms at 1kHz for all outputs. Recommended load is 20K ohms or greater.
Maximum inputs:
- Magnetic phono: 300mV RMS @ 1kHz.
